In a simple experiment, researchers at the University of Chicago sought to find out whether a rat would release a fellow rat from an unpleasantly restrictive cage if it could. The answer was yes.
The free rat, occasionally hearing distress calls from its compatriot, learned to open the cage and did so with greater efficiency over time. It would release the other animal even if there wasn’t the payoff of a reunion with it. Astonishingly, if given access to a small hoard of chocolate chips, the free rat would usually save at least one treat for the captive— which is a lot to expect of a rat.
The researchers came to the unavoidable conclusion that what they were seeing was empathy— and apparently selfless behavior driven by that mental state.
"A study by Science/AAAS shows that rats preferred freeing caged rats rather than eating food placed in the cage, suggesting that the rats show empathy, a trait only previously known to primates."
Just let that sink in.
Wow fucking humans are so pathetically stupid.
Like oh yeah. Put sentient beings through traumatic, distressing experiments in fucking labs to find out something they could’ve found out by examining two rats together in their comfortable home environment for an hour. Fucking disgusting.
Pigs love affection and snuggles, yet the method of raising pigs for slaughter is one of the cruellest known to mankind. It deprives pigs of natural contact, access to dirt and sunshine, and leaves them without any outlet for their high intelligence and problem-solving skills.
If you wouldn’t eat a dog or a dolphin, please don’t eat a pig.
I wish people could understand how horrible it is inside slaughterhouses. Pigs often witness their own brothers and sisters being slaughtered right in front of them, knowing that they’re next to die. It’s hell on Earth. It’s not right.
And people still don’t understand why we are angry.
"Oh you’re vegan that’s so cool"
"I could never go vegan though I love cheese too much"
"You need to respect my choice to not be vegan"
Telling someone to not eat meat is lifestyle shaming in the same sense that telling someone not to rape is sex shaming. It isn’t. Your decision to eat meat is as much of a personal choice as me ramming a knife into your throat is my personal choice. It isn’t. Stop…
